Motor Insurance Bureau
The Motor Insurance Bureau of the Association of Hungarian Insurance Companies (Hungarian abbreviation: MABISZ GKI) started its activity on 1st January 1996.
The primary obligation of the MABISZ GKI is to exercise the major part of the duties of MABISZ assigned by law in connection with the compulsory motor liability insurance.
The current rules regarding the compulsory motor liability insurance of the operator of the vehicle are specified by the Government Decree No. 190/2004, (English, German translation) which became operative as from 1st January 2001. However, as to losses occurred prior to this date, the repeatedly amended rules of the Government Decree No. 58/1991 (IV.13.) being in force at the time of the loss shall be applicable.
The main tasks of the Bureau:
As from January 2002, the activity of our office shall be gradually based on electronic administration. Therefore, in order to facilitate our quick response, we would appreciate if our clients and visitors of this site would send their messages to our email address:
In case you would prefer mailing us, you will be kindly requested to address your correspondence to the below-mentioned post-office box. Thus you will not only be helping the Hungarian Postal Service do its job, but we may expect an earlier receipt of your mail as well.
Should you like to make a written enquiry regarding your claim already filed with us, then it is important that your mail would duly contain a reference to the claim number we had provided you with. In case you are unaware of the claim number, then please advise the registration numbers of the vehicles involved in the accident as well as the date of it.
Address: H-1062 Budapest, Aradi u. 65-67.
Postal Address: MABISZ GKI
Phone (switchboard): (+36 1) 266-9866
In case you are calling us within Hungary but outside of Budapest, you should dial the prefix of 06 1. Should you know the extension of the person you would like to talk to, then – provided that your phone is operating in tone mode – you may immediately enter these numbers before our telephone operator would respond to your call. In case the extension is busy, please call us again the same way in about a few minutes. If the extension is busy, we would not recommend your calling the operator instead, for she would be unable to connect you with a busy extension either.
